A WOMAN whose aunt was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer is running the Wright Hassall Leamington Regency 10 km to help support suffers of the disease.

Louise Mitchell, aged 24, was devastated when she discovered her aunt Mary Whistler, aged 60, from Alcester, had cancer and wanted to do something positive.

The first time runner will complete the challenge on Sunday, April 17, with the aim of raising at least £1,000 for Beating Bowel Cancer.

She will be running with her team Lou’s Legends, made up herself and her two co-workers Jolyon Barnes and Chris Wilson.

Ms Mitchell said: "When my aunt was diagnosed with bowel cancer it felt like our world had fallen apart. You never think it’s going to happen to someone in your family.

"Mary is determined to beat this and we hope to raise as much money as possible for Beating Bowel Cancer, so more people can be supported and we can help raise awareness of the condition. The team will be wearing our unique bum shorts to help draw attention to our cause.

"All I want to do is reach my dream target of £1000 to show my support for such an amazing cause, in celebration of my brave and amazing aunt and make the rest of my family proud," she added.

Ms Whistler was diagnosed with bowel cancer in November 2015. She is now recovering from surgery and has started chemotherapy.
