A STUDY looking to alleviate traffic-congestion in Alcester has been backed by MP Nadhim Zahawi.

Following numerous complaints from residents, Alcester town councillors Mike Gittus and Eric Payne recently met with Mr Zahawi and spent a morning looking at problem locations, particular outside the town’s schools.

Cllr Gittus and Cllr Payne say the popularity of the schools has caused some of the parking problems in the town.

Cllr Payne said: "With the continuing success of our schools comes the ever worsening problem of parking and congestion.

"I have promised the residents in the areas affected that I will do all I can to help resolve the problem."

Over the next 12 months, Cllr Gittus, who is also a Warwickshire County Councillor, will be asking the county council to compile a study to establish if the issues can be reduced with highway improvements.

"Over the last few years we have had some issues with vehicular movement and parking." he said.

"We have a lot of complaints about people parking all over the place, in particular, outside the grammar school.

"We really are the authors of our own misfortune, if our schools were poor performers there wouldn't be any students and no cars, as it is our schools are the best in Warwickshire and with that there is a price."

Nadhim Zahawi MP added: "Clearly there are issues here that need to be addressed."
