A MAN was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a Diamond bus.

The man, thought to be in his 20s, suffered a serious chest injury and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, for further treatment.

Police, an ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford arrived at the junction of Church Hill Way and Eagle Road near Moons Moat North Industrial Estate on Monday, January 18 just after 8.50am.

A Diamond Bus spokesman said initial enquiries and statements received suggested the pedestrian was walking on the grass embankment, lost his footing and collided with the passing bus.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "Crews arrived at the scene to discover a pedestrian lying at the roadside following a collision with a bus.

"The man was assessed by ambulance staff and treated for a serious chest injury.

"Crews worked quickly to stabilise his condition and administer pain relief before loading him on to the ambulance. The man remained conscious throughout.

"He was then transported to the waiting air ambulance, which had landed on nearby basketball courts, before being flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, for further treatment."

A Diamond Bus spokesman added:"We wish the gentleman, who was treated for a serious chest injury, a full and quick recovery.

"The road was reopened and the services began to return to normal operation at around 11.30."

An accident investigation team from Diamond Buses joined paramedics and local police at the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is urged to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 85s of January 18.
