A WARWICKSHIRE County Councillor is supporting several community groups in Alcester after receiving £5,000 from this year’s grant fund.

Councillor Mike Gittus has chosen to donate £1,500 for air conditioning to be installed at the Jubilee Centre in Alcester, as he hopes this will enable residents to use the facility in all weather conditions.

A further £1,000 will go to the Alcester Olympic Committee, to encourage healthy lifestyles and youth participation in sporting activities, another £1,000 to the Oversley Green Residents Association for a strimmer and chipper and Alcester Town Council will receive £700 to buy a Gravity Rider for the Moorfields Road play area.

Warwickshire Vision Support will also receive £800 to help pay for transport costs for the 43 registered blind or partially sighted people in the town, which Cllr Gittus hopes will lead to residents leading a more active life.

Cllr Gittus said: "I have always been aware that comparatively small sums of money can make all the difference with any organisation if carefully targeted."

"This year my theme was to help those that are already making as difference to our residents lives."

"I decided to support local organisations and associations to become more inclusive and make themselves able to provide a better service to a larger audience."
