A MUCH-loved Alcester bridge player, who died in 2008, has been remembered once again with a memorial event in her honour.

The seventh annual Ada Hampton Memorial Evening was held by Alcester Bridge Club on Friday, October 23- the nearest date to Mrs Hampton’s birthday.

Mrs Hampton died just three days after she had last played bridge at the club and six days after her 100th birthday.

To mark her birthday in 2008, her Friday bridge partner, Jean Underwood, bought the new centenarian a bouquet of yellow roses.

And since Mrs Hampton's death on October 27 2008, Mrs Underwood has arranged for yellow roses to be awarded to the competition winners at the memorial evening, but this year a yellow rose was given to each player instead.

Speaking at last year’s memorial event, Mrs Underwood, described Mrs Hampton as “a feisty lady” and added she was an excellent bridge player remembered in many bridge circles in the area.

The victors of this year’s competition were Joan and David Ogg.

A special collection for the South Warwickshire Heart Foundation, which was doubled by the club, raised almost £100.

Alcester Bridge Club meets every Friday evening throughout the year at Jubilee Court.
