A MEMBER of the House of Lords visited Alcester Grammar School recently to encourage pupils to engage with the politics and the parliamentary process.

Lord Dear, met with a group of Year 9 pupils at the school, to talk about what’s involved in his work in the House of Lords, and answer questions on life at Westminster.

Principal Clive Sentence said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

Lord Deer’s visit was organised through the ‘Peers in Schools’ programme, as part of an attempt to reach out to the public and engage with them about what the House of Lords does and how it works for them.

This programme has been running across the UK since 2007 and has so far involved around 75,000 young people.
