A PREVIEW clip for a brand new zombie series, which is being filmed partially in Alcester, has had almost 12,000 hits on Facebook.

Patient Zero tells the story of a Russian scientist asked by British Intelligence to gather information on a virus hidden in a secret laboratory in Chernobyl, Ukraine.

The scientist steals the virus and takes it to England to prevent it being used as a weapon but ends infecting himself in the process, causing a pandemic in the UK.

The series made Pathogen Films is being written by Marc Gordge, and directed, edited and filmed by Ben Atkinson. Once complete it will be taken to various film festivals through the country.

So far, the series has enlisted people from Alcester to star in the production, including Court Leet officer Marc Venables, and it is using High Street as a set.

Mr Atkinson said: "It keeps me awake most nights, what I want it to look like, how to improve it, it is my life at the moment.

"For me, what started out as a small project between me and Marc at a business networking event, has now escalated in to what I'd say, is a community project."

He added that classic zombie storyline has the special twist that female zombies are more affected by the virus than males and become extremely violent.

The series will consist of six 10-minute shorts, each following one character and showing where they were when the infection began, the 7th short will see all the characters all together and this will mark the start of a two-year story plan.

"Marc plans on then writing a two-year long storyline which will then delve deeper into characters, develop them further and explain some of the very interesting twists that Marc has cleverly written,” he added.

"Alcester has been very kind and supportive of our project Patient Zero and we can't thank them enough.

"With local businesses and communities pooling resources and getting together to create something awesome and hopefully it will put Alcester and surrounding districts, on the movie-making map."

The series is expected to be completed next year with the Alcester episode anticipated for January or February.

The film crew are planning to thank Alcester for their support by raising money for one of the town's good causes.
