A KIND-HEARTED Alcester mum has raised more than £700 for charity by losing her long locks.

Ella Horsley, age 32, bravely had her head shaved on her birthday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support after seeing the charity's Brave The Shave campaign.

The charity is close to Ella’s heart as it offered invaluable support to her family just before her grandfather, Jon Konig, passed away from terminal cancer in May 2012.

Mrs Horsley said: "I am blown away with the amount of support I have been shown by my friends and family and I’m over the moon to of exceeded my target of £500. It’s taking a while to get use to my new look, I keep catching glimpses of myself in windows and mirrors and not recognising myself but I’ll get used to it."

Husband Julian said: "She has already commented how cold her head is now feeling.

"We are all so very proud of her, when I first learnt what she wanted to do I thought she was a little crazy as she had such lovely long hair.

"But, once I knew she had her heart set on doing it, I was a 100 per cent behind her."

Shortly after the shave, Ella's son Jacob, aged four, reassured his mum by telling her it would grow back.

Mr Konig, who lived in Castle Road, was well known in the area having resided in the town for about 40 years.
