A PRIMARY school near Alcester has unveiled a brand new £9,500 environmental area.

Dunnington CE Primary School received a grant from the Lottery Community Fund to help revamp a garden which had become inaccessible due to overgrown brambles, nettles, weeds and dead plants.

The transformed area now includes a fenced pond with pond dipping access, a wild flower meadow along with new plants and a range of wildlife and insect habitats.

There is also a large chair for reading stories, a log circle and bark paths.

Headteacher Paul Johnson said: "Our new environmental area has opened up lots of new opportunities for developing the children's learning, in science, creative writing, art, geography and much more.

“There was huge excitement when the first group of children who went pond dipping discovered that we have newts. This is an asset which will benefit pupils of all ages."

On Monday, July 6 Alcester Town Councillor Lennox Cumberbatch officially opened

The area after leading a collective worship followed by talk on his role as councillor.
