HUNDREDS of athletes descended upon Ragley Hall near Alcester to take part in the Avenger Triathlon.

The event saw middle distance contestants faced with a 1.9km swim around Ragley Boating Lake followed by a 90km bike ride on countryside roads, finished off with a 20km run round the trails and fields of the estate.

Competitors could also chose to compete in either Olympic or sprint distances.

In the men and women's sprint Tom Greeves and Emilie Verroken were victorious finishing in one hour and eight minutes and 14 seconds and one hour and 14 minutes and nine seconds respectively.

In Olympic race, Richard Shephard completed the course in two hours and 16 minutes and in the women's race Ali Moult triumphed with a time of two hours, 35 minutes and three seconds.

Finishing in first place in four hours and 28 minutes and 43 seconds, Jon Mansfield, stole the show in the middle distance event alongside Kate McNeill, who placed first in the women's edition with a time of four hours and 48 minutes and 17 seconds.

All profits from the triathlon will be donated to local charity Kids Run Free.

The 2015 triathlon was hosted by Raceways Events and took place on Sunday, June 21.
