PUPILS and staff at Salford Priors CE Primary School celebrated as their new £4,600 library was officially opened this week.

The project, designed to create an inviting and exciting environment for the students, was funded by Warwickshire county councillor Mike Brain, who donated £2,600 from his Grant Fund and Salford Priors Parish Council which gave £2,000.

The modern library includes beanbags for children, a special table and chairs for teacher led guided reading activities and chairs for adults from the village- who are invited to come along and read with the children.

It also provides a welcoming place for parents who want to help their children read.

It was official opened on Tuesday, June 16 by Councillor Brian and chairman of Salford Priors Parish Council, Karen Littleford.

During the ceremony, cllr Littleford handed over the village copy of the Domesday Book, on loan as a reference document.

The new facility is situated in the school's old disused computer room as pupils now use laptops instead.

John Alexander, chairman of the school’s governors, said: “Tremendous work has been done by teachers who came into school during the Easter holiday and in the evenings to help organise and sort books. The Warwickshire Library Service also assisted with cataloguing.”
