A YOUNG butcher who works at Hillers on Dunnington Heath Farm completed the Shakespeare Half Marathon and raised £667 in aid of two charities.

Karl Mould, aged 24, in a bid to help his friend Harry Dyke to raise £20,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the English Schools Cricket Association Under-15 Bunbury festival, pulled on his trainers and completed the course in 1 hour 51 minutes.

Mr Mould, from Wellesbourne, said: “I am immensely proud to have finished such an achievement. It was hard but it makes me feel better knowing that I have run for such good causes.”

Mr Dyke, who also works at Hillers, is also holding a charity cricket match at Alcester and Ragley Park Cricket Club in the Ragley Estate on Sunday, June 14, to help raise further donations for his chosen charities.

The event will see the biggest celebrity cricket club in the world, the Bunburys, who have raise more than £17 million for various charities, compete against Mr Dyke’s team called Harry the Fish XI.

Mr Dyke, aged 19, said: “I am delighted to have such a good friend as Karl, he has put so much effort into this half marathon and I thank him for all his hard work.

“We are chuffed to bits with the amount that he raised, and he should be so proud of himself.”

Karl added: “I am delighted to be helping out my good friend Harry on his efforts to raise £20,000 for charity and I am sure that it is going to be a fun day.

So far, the celebrity line up for the cricket event includes TV personality Nick Owen from Midlands Today, Australian cricket star Jeff Thomson, former Aston Villa and champions league cup winner Gary Shaw, and James and Oliver Phelps, who play the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter films.

The event will include a world record attempt for the longest cricketing run up, raffles, tombola's and a big charity auction where a Barry Gibb signed guitar will be up for grabs.

Tickets for the public are priced at £5 and VIP tickets are still available for the day.
