MORE than 3,000 scouts descended on the Ragley Estate to take part in the triannual Get In Warwickshire Scouts’ County Camp.

Youngsters aged between six and 25, were able to take part in various activities including climbing, kayaking, water zorbing, drumming, bushcraft, sailing and an explosive mad science show.

Some 1,388 volunteers made this event possible by donating their time to the event held between Friday, May 15 and Sunday, May 17.

During the event, the National Grid taught the youngsters about electricity and circuits and Zippo’s Circus put on a show to entertain children of all ages.

The current Marquess of Hertford, Lieutenant Colonel Lord Henry Seymour and his wife Beatriz, who live in the Palladian mansion, made an appearance at the event and said they were delighted to see so many young people having fun on their front lawn.

Scouts constructed a collage the Warwickshire Scouts logo and the scouting fleur-de-lis, using bottle top lids and an igloo was made from milk bottles.

In the evening, scouts gathered round a campfire and sang traditional songs.

A spokesman from Warwickshire Scouts said: “The camp has been quoted to be one of the best Warwickshire Scouts has ever seen. A remarkable achievement by all involved.”

UK chief scout commissioner Wayne Bulpitt attended site on Saturday and spent the morning working with young people at the site.

The event was sponsored by various businesses. Tesco gave fresh fruit to the youngsters and Volvo UK brought along truck tractor units along with a double decker bus.
