ALCESTER and Stratford District Round Table have scooped three prestigious regional awards.

The organisation was presented with the area sports trophy, charity trophy and jubilee trophy for area table of the year during an area annual general meeting held at the Irish Centre in Birmingham.

Chairman Paul Jackson said: “We’re delighted to have won these awards. Our area is made up of ten round tables, some from much larger catchment areas, so to win these trophies is an achievement.

“Every year each table in the area runs its own sports event. This year that’s included boat racing on the Avon, wheelchair basketball and cricket, and we won the overall trophy.

“I’m most proud of the charity award in recognition of the number of events and causes we’ve supported, and the impact of giving more than £8,000 to local groups and organisations during the year.

“Our involvement with local organisations, area tabling, the funds raised for charity and increasing membership numbers then won us the overall area 35 Table of the Year.”

Alcester Round Table is part of the international Round Table organisation which offers young men the chance to make new friends, try new experiences, and give something back to their local communities.
