NINE roads in Alcester are set to be affected by plans to introduce 20 mph zones in the town following concerns over road safety.

Residents are being consulted on the proposal from Warwickshire County Council to cut speed throughout Tibbets Close, Butter Street, Meeting Lane and The Hopkins Precinct and on parts of High Street, Kinwarton Road, Gunnings Road, Henley Street and Church Street.

Warwickshire County Councillor Mike Gittus said: “A strong pedestrian presence brings vitality and investment. The provision of a 20mph zone will reduce the road casualties, increase the visibility of the retail offer and improve the safe feeling of our visitors and families, they will dwell on the High Street for longer periods of time.”

A copy of the proposed order, the plan showing roads affected and a statement of the council’s reasons for proposing to make the order can be viewed at the main reception at Shire Hall, Market Place, Warwick, at the Stratford District Council, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon and at the Public Library, Priory Road, Alcester during opening hours.

Adverts will be placed in local newspapers over the next few weeks to inform residents of the prospective changes.

Any enquiries can be made to Mark O’Connell, from Warwickshire County Council’s communities group, by calling 01926 412889.

Objections to the proposals must be in writing and sent to Mark O’Connell, communities group, PO Box 43, Shire Hall, Warwick, CV34 4SX.

These must be received by Friday, April 10.
