PEOPLE in Alcester enjoyed some flipping fun as they took part in the town's annual Pancake Day races to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

The event, held today (Tuesday, February 17) in High Street, was organised by offices from the Court Leet.

A total of 21 races covering all ages took place and organisations and businesses formed teams. Each year, representatives from the town's pubs compete in a race. Frequent winners The Turk’s Head aimed to retain their cup but lost out to The Lord Nelson.

High Bailiff Vaughan Blake said: "It was a good day, lovely sunshine and the streets were packed from end to end with spectators. I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed it."

Children and adults began the race by the post office and they had to flip their pancakes in order to win. Toddlers started from the half-way point.

The winners were presented with prizes from the Court Leet’s High Bailiff Vaughan Blake at St Nicholas’ Church.

Children who came in first, second or third place each received an Easter egg and all other racers were given a lollipop.
