A NEW antenatal clinic has been launched at Alcester Health Centre allowing women in the surrounding district to get the care they need closer to home.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust funded the clinic with the aim of improving services and making them more accessible for women in the area.

The clinic at Alcester Health Centre has an obstetric consultant, a midwife and there are also facilities for women to have ultrasound scans on site.

Before the introduction of the clinic local women had to travel to Warwick Hospital if they needed to see a consultant obstetrician.

Wendy Jones, head of midwifery at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am really pleased we have been able to introduce this new clinic. I believe that women in the local community will really benefit from such a valuable facility closer to home.”

In October 2014, the centre opened a consultant delivered gynaecology clinic on Thursday mornings, which gives women the option of having gynaecological scanning in the hospital setting.
