CHILDREN at Wootton Wawen CE Primary School took part in a road safety project to try to stop unsafe parking.

The school council patrolled outside the school for a week, talking to drivers about considering parking elsewhere and handing out handmade parking tickets where necessary.

Pupils designed their own tickets and held a poster competition to promote safer parking awareness.

Staff and children spoke to governors and parents about people parking illegally on the zig-zags outside the school.

Julie Hemming, school council leader, said: “It has been very successful. We noticed an impact throughout the week and on Friday we didn’t have to hand out any tickets.

“It definitely had an impact, it shows. We have had some creeping back up but it has been better. The road has been much clearer.”

They patrolled between Monday, January 26 and Friday, January 30.

The school council now plan to hold spot checks on the week after half-term or may even check up on drivers at random intervals instead.
