A MEETING to establish the requirements of a new project to help Syrian refugees was held at Alcester Town Hall.

Frank Wood and David Strickland-Eales are organising the initiative to help children who have fled from Syria due to fighting and unrest.

Fifty people attended the meeting with around half leaving contact details indicating that they would like to help the organisation in the future. The meeting raised £410 which will be sent to help children in Aleppo in north Syria.

Mr Wood said: “A lot of children are not getting an education. I just wanted to do something.”

He added that he hopes to get residents from Alcester involved in the project but would also like to hear from Redditch people as well.

Two representatives from Open Doors, an international ministry supporting persecuted Christians and churches, gave speeches during the event.

The project aims to work with Open Doors to identify where the help is most needed, establish how best to deliver assistance, set in place a programme to raise funds, equip local people on the ground to deliver the funds and report back on the needs, successes and progress. They also hope to help Muslim children as well as Christian.
