HONEYBOURNE Road in Bidford-On-Avon will remain closed to allow major footpath construction and resurfacing to take place on the carriageway and nearby footpaths.

Warwickshire County Council has announced the closure of the road from the crossroads at Welford Road and Cleeve Road to the bridge.

It is anticipated the work will be completed by January 24 2015 but a temporary traffic order to closing the road will be in place for the next 18 months.

A Warwickshire County Council spokesman said: "We have a statutory duty to maintain the county's road network and these works are part of a scheduled programme of improvements.

“We consulted with businesses and transport providers prior to the work commencing in order that they could make arrangements to manage their services through this short period of disruption."

As a result, Diamond Bus Company will divert its 247 bus via a bypass route and is unable to serve Marcliff, Cleeve Prior, North, Middle, South Littleton, Blackminster and Badsey.

In a statement, posted on the bus company’s website, a spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this causes to passengers.

“School journeys from Cleeve Prior, the Littletons and Badsey to schools in Evesham, Blackminster and Alcester are being temporarily replaced.

“Diamond will update any changes regarding this diversion here and also on our Twitter and Facebook pages.”

The crossroads will be closed for one day on January 21.
