CHILDREN at Tudor Grange Primary Academy Haselor re-created the Great Fire of London with the help of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue.

Students in Year 1 and 2 made miniature Tudor houses including a replica to Thomas Farriner’s bakery in Pudding Lane, where it is believed the fire began.

The models were arranged in the school’s car park and the fire service started the demonstration by setting alight to the replica bakery, before the flames spread across the rest of the set.

The aim was to teach the children about fire safety, whilst at the same time helping them to learn the history behind the iconic event.

Principal Gill Humphriss said: “The idea was to try and bring history alive it is difficult for children to understand something which happened hundreds of years ago.”

The event marked the end of the topic, where the students had studied the dairy of Samuel Pepys, an account which documents the Great Fire of London, during their English lessons.

They also made a larger replica bakery and made salt dough bread loaves to decorate the inside.

The demonstration took place on Monday, December 1.
