ALCESTER is set to host its annual St Nicholas Night celebrations where stalls selling food, gifts and charity related items will fill the High Street on Saturday, December 6.

Following tradition, a boy Bishop of Alcester has been appointed to represent St Nicholas as part of the celebrations.

Alex Walters, a pupil at St Nicholas' Church of England Primary School, is set to take up this role.

Alex will be assisted by three attendants Chloe Hancox, Hetty Barton-Downes and Lauren Whitehead.

As part of the event, a festive-themed market will be open from 3pm with live music and entertainment put on from 4pm.

A parade featuring the boy bishop, vintage vehicles and town organisations will be held at 5pm.

During the celebrations children will be able visit Santa in his grotto.

The event will reach its climax with a fireworks extravaganza held before a short service at St Nicholas' Church.

Reverend Adrian Guthrie, the rector of Alcester Minster, said: “It is very important for Alcester as the church is very much the centre of the community.

“Most of the community organisations and clubs and group have a stall or are in some way represented at the event.”
