THE Princess Royal attended the Forest of Arden Agricultural Society’s 66th annual Ploughing and Hedging Competition in Alcester.

During the free event spectators could witness and various types of ploughing contest including a challenge to find the best hedgelayer; where an unkempt hedge is transformed into beautiful stock proof fence in just a few hours or the competition to crown ‘Champion Ploughman of the Day.’

Jonny Wingfield, aged four, of St Mary’s School, Henley in Arden, presented the princess with a bouquet of flowers.

The Princess met the Committee members of the Forest of Arden Agricultural Society including longstanding member and past president Mike Moss.

Sue Westmacott, Secretary for the Forest Of Arden Agricultural Society, said: “She spoke to every competitor and she is so knowledgeable about farming.”

The Lord-Lieutenant of Warwickshire Timothy Cox also attended the event.

Trade stands, a produce tent and lunch tent was also available throughout the competition.

Farmers were on hand to explain to visitors what their work involves and help to steward the event.

The free event, which was open to the general public, took place on Thursday, September 18 at Kingley Farm, Wixford.
