ALCESTER is celebrating its launch as a bee friendly town with a morning of entertainment.
On Saturday, July 19 there will be live music, bee and flower-coloured friendship bracelet making demonstrations, a raffle along with an enclosed live bee hive.
The event will take place outside St. Nicholas Church, Alcester from 10am till 12 noon.
Bees are believed to be in decline partly due to the use insecticides and other chemicals.
Alcester Councillor Nina Knapman, chair of the environmental sub-committee, said:”We are trying to make people aware of the plight of bees.
People are just not aware of what is going on.”
A Friends of the Earth Amnesty will take place to rid garden sheds of chemicals which harm bees and pollinators.
Bee friendly plants and seeds will be on offer.
Councillor Knapman hopes the event will inform residents and their children about the importance of bee and other pollinators.
Bees play a vital role in the fertilisation of crops they help provide a more than one third of the food we eat.
The Environment Sub Committee are organising the event with the support of Alcester Town Council.
