THE committee for Alcester in Bloom has received a donation of £400 from the developers of Great Alne’s Maudsley Park housing development.
The money is being put towards funding the hanging flower baskets that are displayed throughout the town during the summer months.
Iwan Jones, Renaissance Villages’ managing director, presented the cheque to the chairman of the recreation and open spaces committee, Lennox Cumberbatch. Mr Jones said: “It is very important to Renaissance Villages that we build a strong relationship with the local community, and we are delighted to support Alcester in Bloom. A lot of hard work goes into the numerous floral displays that line the streets, making Alcester a delightful place to visit. It’s really great to see the wonderful community spirit with so many people getting involved.”
Accepting the donation, Councillor Cumberbatch thanked Renaissance Villages for its support. He said: “We are very grateful to Renaissance Villages for its donation. The residents, organisations and businesses of Alcester take great pride in maintaining the town’s floral décor each year, and with the help of our supporters we can be confident in keeping Alcester in Bloom throughout the summer. We look forward to welcoming visitors from far and wide to come and enjoy the vibrant displays.”
The Alcester in Bloom committee dates back to 1980, and in 1982 the town was awarded its first certificate of merit by the Britain in Bloom competition.
Today the committee is supported by more than 20 organisations, as well as local business and many of the town’s residents. For more information on Alcester in Bloom, visit alcesterinbloom.org.uk.
