STUDENTS from Alcester Grammar School were out and about recently as part of the school’s annual Community Day.

More than 270 year 12 pupils took time off from their lessons to offer up their services at various community projects and organisations.

Students got involved with more than 30 different activities stretching from Alcester itself to nearby Stratford, Henley and Redditch.

Activities included forestry work at Coughton Court, entertaining residents in local care homes and users of day centres, helping run activities at local primary schools and nurseries, taking a wildlife survey in Alcester for the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, and gardening at the Cleeve Prior medieval field barn.

A spokesman for the school said: “The aim of the day is to be of service to the community and to help the students appreciate their place and responsibilities in it, as well as develop their skills and knowledge.

“There was fantastic feedback once again from the organisations benefitting from the day, with students being complimented on their maturity, good humour and willingness to get stuck in.”
