ALCESTER’S annual Remembrance events are taking place in the town this weekend.

Tickets are already on sale for the now traditional Festival of Remembrance concert at the Greig Sports Hall on Saturday, November 10 with all profits going to the Poppy Appeal.

The concert starts at 7.30pm, and the programme will include performances from Alcester Male voice choir, Alcester Victoria Silver Band, St Nicholas School Choir, Studio 17 dancers, Mr T, and other performers.

The night has a 1940s theme and audience members are asked to dress accordingly if they can.

Tickets are £9 per person, and they are still available from Guys Menswear, Alcester Flower Shop, and the Royal British Legion branch secretary David Malin, on 01789 400427.

This year Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday, which means that the town’s two parades will be combined into one event.

People from local community groups and civic organisations are meeting in Bleachfield Street at 10.15am on Sunday, November 11, to march the length of the high street to St Nicholas Church, where wreaths will be laid in memory of those who have died in conflict.

There will be a church service at 11am, after which the parade will continue to Henley Street before dispersing.

Legion members, veterans, and serving personnel are invited to take part in the parade, while townspeople are invited to line the high street and to take part in the services.

All the town centre roads will be closed on Sunday for the duration of the parade.
