Outbreak of mystery dog disease

DOG owners are being warned to be vigilant following an outbreak of a mystery disease which can prove lethal if left untreated.

YourVets in Wythall has seen a marked increase in the number of cases of Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI), since the start of September.

Little is known about the illness, but the clinic is warning owners to look out for the main symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy.

Suzanne Johnstone from the vets practice said: “It is normal to see some cases of the illness around this time of year, but the amount of cases we have seen in the past couple of weeks has been alarming.

“Not much is known about the disease, but it is thought that it is contracted by dogs breathing in or eating spores in affected woodland areas.

“The symptoms can easily be misinterpreted as something less serious so we’re urging owners to bring their dog in if they’re not sure.”
