Man was assaulted by gang in Redditch

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was assaulted by a gang on his way home from a night out.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was walking home from the town centre when he heard a car screeching up Abbey Road behind him.

He shouted at the driver as the car drove past and then carried on walking.

A few moments later the car came screeching up behind him again and this time it stopped.

Four or five Asian males got out of the car and assaulted him before stealing his wallet and a silver tobacco tin.

The victim sustained a number of facial injuries but did not attend hospital.

The wallet is black leather and contained a credit card, debit card, driving licence and cash.

PC Lisa Stokes said: "The car is thought to be a small light-coloured hatchback and we are eager to hear from anyone who remembers seeing it in the area, especially if it was being driven at speed with its tyres screeching.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw the robbery taking place or thinks they know who these males are."

The incident happened at about 1am on Sunday, October 14 in Hemmings Entry, off Abbey Road.

Witnesses or anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 103-S-141012, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
