STAFF from a Redditch firm have helped 12-year-old Rafe Walker, diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, smash his fundraising target.

Energy consultancy EIC chose to help Rafe in his quest to raise £30,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital - and succeeded.

The firm recently presented the St Bede's Middle School pupil with a cheque for £500 raised by donating £1 for every business card they received from a recent event.

Rafe’s mum Liz, who along with the family has been raising the cash for four years, said it was great news.

She said: “We would like to thank EIC for their contribution, it really is an amazing amount of money and so thrilling that we have now smashed our £30,000 target.

“It never fails to amaze me just how generous and kind people are - it makes me feel very humble.”

She added that even though they have reached their target the family will continue to fundraise and already have a number of activities planned for next year.

Simon Butterfield, from EIC said: “We are very proud to support Rafe and his family.

“Their fundraising has been phenomenal and the money they have raised for Birmingham Children’s Hospital really will save lives.

“We look forward to hearing of Rafe’s progress and supporting him in future fundraising.”
