Redditch families who have suffered the death of a baby invited to special service

FAMILIES who have suffered the loss of a baby can light candles in memory of their little ones at a memorial service at 11am on Saturday, November 10 at St Peter’s Church in Ipsley.
The gentle service will include hymns, readings, music and prayers and the opportunity for people to light candles in memory of their child or children they have lost.
After the service there will be the chance for bereaved families to gather together over tea and coffee.
The service has been organised by the Alexandra Hospital’s spiritual and pastoral care team, St Peter’s Church and Thomas Brother’s Funeral Directors.
It is for all who have been affected by miscarriage, termination, still birth or neonatal death, regardless of background or faith.
The service is not just for families who have lost children recently. People have been known to attend services to mark what a special birthday of their child.
The Rev Andrew Fisher, Alex Hospital chaplain, said: “The service is a chance for families to reflect and say goodbye after the heartbreak of losing a child.
“Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare. Not only do we feel the physical loss but we feel our hopes and dreams for the future have been dashed as well. It is hoped that this special service at St Peter’s will be another way for families to remember their little ones and help continue the healing process. All are welcome.”
Thomas Brothers have kindly donated a Book of Remembrance which will be put in the multi-faith prayer room at the hospital. The book will be dedicated at the service.
It is hoped family and friends will use the book to write messages or memories following the loss of a loved one in hospital, including the loss of a baby.
There will be the opportunity for parents to write in the book after the service.
