FORMER Mappleborough Green resident David Last will be conducting Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir at a prestigious concert in Studley High School, Crooks Lane, on Saturday, October 13 at 7pm.

He will also accompany the violin soloist Jamie Hutchinson.

Mr Last attended Studley Infant and Junior Schools and Alcester Grammar School. While at school, he played the organ at Hewell Grange Prison and Studley Catholic Church and accompanied Studley Operatic Society and various local choirs.

He graduated with honours from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2000 and has performed worldwide as a musical director and accompanist, and is well respected as an orchestrator and arranger. He has been musical director of Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir since 2001.

The choir already has an enviable reputation, having performed with stars as varied as Charlotte Church, Hayley Westenra, Max Boyce and Peter Karrie, and in venues as prestigious as the Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham, the Millennium Stadium and, of course, Cardiff Arms Park itself.

Jamie Hutchinson hails from Tenby and is in high demand as a freelance violinist in London.

The concert is being held by Studley Methodist Church as part of a fund-raising effort to improve access to the building for the disabled and those of limited mobility.

Tickets, priced £10, are available from Davis Hardware, 21a Alcester Road, Studley or by calling 01527 854830.
