Cold caller complaints in Matchborough
7:20am Tuesday 25th September 2012 in News
TRADING Standards officers are urging Redditch residents to be on their guard following complaints about cold callers who are targeting the Matchborough area.
Residents and community groups have raised their concerns after hearing from vulnerable and elderly residents who have been bombarded with the calls.
On occasions, according to residents, the salespeople have used heavy handed tactics to increase their sales and are targeting vulnerable residents.
Ward member, Councillor Juliet Brunner, who raised the issue with Worcestershire Regulatory Services’ Trading Standards Team, said: “We need to advise our vulnerable and elderly residents how to deal with these unsolicited callers.”
A leaflet with top tips for deterring cold calls, plus ‘no cold callers’ display cards are being distributed by Community Support Officers.
Portfolio-holder Councillor Rebecca Blake, responsible for community safety, said: “It's always a good idea to use security doors chains and if people do not have a pre-booked appointment do not let them in.
“Remember, legitimate visitors will not mind waiting on the doorstep while you check their identity or coming back at a time that is convenient for you.
“If you have concerns the police, council or regulatory services are there to help".
