Wythall train station to lose ticket office

CONTROVERSIAL plans by London Midland to close ticket offices at a number of stations, including Wythall, have been approved.

As part of plans to modernise the service a number of other station ticket offices will run with reduced hours.

A statement on the company’s website said that less than half of tickets are bought across the counter.

“Our research on sales at our stations shows that our passengers are changing the way that they buy tickets.

“At many stations there are periods of the day when few or even no tickets are bought from our ticket offices.”

London Midland added that it is hoping to avoid the need for compulsory redundancies but there was no guarantee.

Centro, the region’s transport authority, said it was extremely disappointed at the Government’s decision to allow the train operator to make the changes.
