Register to vote in Police and Crime Commissioner elections

REDDITCH residents are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote in the first ever Police and Crime Commissioner elections later this year.

The election, which will be taking place on November 15, 2012, is for the whole of the West Mercia area with Redditch as one of the key areas.

Police and Crime Commissioners will be elected by the public to hold chief constables and the police force to account – essentially making the police accountable to the people they serve.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of Redditch Council, said: “It is important that people get the chance to have their say and the new Police and Crime Commissioner elections will make this possible.

“Residents should make sure they are registered to vote so that a candidate can be picked who will serve and work in the best interests of the people of Redditch.”

Registering to vote only takes a few minutes. Residents can complete the form that was sent out recently at the annual canvass or can print off a form from aboutmyvote.co.uk, the website of the independent elections watchdog.

Residents can also call the elections helpline on 01527 881 421 or email elections@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk.
