House-building company to boost Acorns' coffers

A CHILDREN’S hospice is set to be have its funds boosted by a house-building company.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands has nominated Acorns Children’s Hospice, which has its headquarters in Wythall, as the company’s charity of choice for the next 12 months.

Throughout the year, Persimmon Homes will help raise vital funds for the children’s hospice through various fundraising activities and launched a ‘Bring a Bag to work’ event as its first initiative.

Acorns Children's Hospice offers a network of specialist care and support to children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses, and their families. It is currently supporting over 630 children and more than 880 families, including those who are bereaved.

Employees have donated unwanted items such as bags, toys and DVDs as part of the fundraising effort which, in turn, will be sold through the network of over 50 Acorns shops across the heart of England.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands charity champion, Adam Lindsay-Smith, said: “Acorns relies on the community to fund the majority of its services and we felt the Bring a Bag initiative was a simple way to begin showing our support.”

Acorns has three hospices located in Selly Oak, the Black Country and Worcester which are designed to provide home-from-home comfort and medical care to both children and their families.

Corporate fundraising officer for Acorns, Ellie Griffiths, said: “We are delighted with the generosity and ongoing support shown by the employees of Persimmon South Midlands.

“Just 60 collection bags of donated items can help raise enough money to cover the cost of a full day’s care for a child at one our hospices.
“So every penny generated from our shops, sales helps to provide the vital care and support our families so desperately require.”
