A LOCAL professional BMX rider, has returned to his roots in Matchborough to help out with funding for the Redditch Wheels Project.

Nik Ford, recently had to undergo surgery, which meant he was out of competitions for the 2011 season, and he has been lending a hand to fellow professional BMX rider Ben Sutor while he's out of the competitive running, to improve facilities at Matchborough Skatepark.

The two have been building a new spine ramp complex at the park over the winter, and secured the donation of 20 new helmets from sponsors Diamondback Bicycles.

Mr Ford said: “Redditch skatepark and the Redditch Wheels project director, Steve Rooke have played a vital role in my career as a professional rider, I wouldn’t be where I am today without them so this is the least I could do and Diamondback were more than happy to help out one of the best outdoor skateparks in the UK.”
