UNISON, the largest public service union, has invited former Home Secretary and Redditch MP Jacqui Smith to a discussion evening on the subject of equality under the title 'Are The Cuts Equal?'
It is an invitation-only event by Worcestershire County UNISON for its members.
As a local politician and as the first ever female Home Secretary, Ms Smith is uniquely placed to offer UNISON members a valuable insight into what challenges she faced as a woman who reached one of the highest levels in Government, as well as offer her thoughts on what might be done to challenge the economic and gender inequality that the cuts have bought into sharp focus.
Ms Smith said she was delighted to get the opportunity to talk to grassroots union members and activists about this important subject.
"In the current economic climate, cuts need to be made, but it's clear that we are not 'all in this together'. I'm keen to talk to UNISON members about how we can protect the staff and services that are most needed.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, February 21 at Worcester Library in Foregate Street, Worcester from 7pm.
