KINGFISHER Shopping Centre has introduced the new body worn video camera this month to make sure that shoppers are even safer.

The small, compact camera acts as an extension of the existing CCTV system, and is worn by the on-site security team members. The device sits inside a case which attaches to a body harness and has a bright yellow/black CCTV sign on the front, which also acts as a slider switch to start and stop recording at a moments notice.

The new technology follows shortly after another security success from the centre after Jim Nicholls, one of the security team leaders, was awarded an “Ace Award for Customer Excellence" at a national BCSC conference last year.

Security manager Craig Nicholls said: “This device enables us to move forward with security technology and it’s an added extra for the security department.

“It enables us to be ahead of our game with maintaining a safe and secure shopping experience for our customers.”

Centre manager Perminder Dhillon is extremely proud of the safe community feeling Kingfisher Shopping Centre creates, and welcomes the additional technology.

“We work closely with the local police on all matters concerning security, and the body worn camera is simply another way in which we are ensuring our customers’ safety.”

He added: “Jim’s award last year is a true testimony to how hard our security team worka, and we endeavour to continue to create a comfortable and attractive retail environment for our customers.”
