Medals haul at open

REDDITCH swimmers took part in the Worcester County Swimming Association Junior Sprint Open meet in Wolverhampton.

This year's event had been expanded to include entries from Ledbury and City of Hereford Swimming Clubs, so there was plenty of competition from more than 300 swimmers in the 9-13 age range.

Redditch Swimming Club performed very well and returned home with eight medals and many personal best performances.

Elizabeth Humphries took the gold in the 11 years backstroke and added bronze in the freestyle and in the individual medley.

She narrowly missed out on a medal by coming fourth in the butterfly.

Lucy Knibbs took gold in the 12 years breaststroke, where she was also fastest overall, being quicker than the 13 year olds. Lucy also scored a bronze in the individual medley.

Ten year old Sophie Bridgman took silver in the butterfly and also took fifth place in the freestyle and sixth in the individual medley.

Michaela Britt took bronze in the 11 years breaststroke and added top ten finishes in the medley and butterfly.

Danielle Harwood won bronze in the 13 years individual medley and scored top 10 finishes in butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke.

Other top 10 finishes came from Nichola Moss, seventh in the nine years medley and Robert Stanley seventh in the 13 years backstroke.

Also competing were Daniel Bridgman, Sasha Knibbs, Emma Hardacre, Hannah Rolls and Olivia Laxton.
