HEREFORD & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (H&WFRS) attended a fire at a factory at Bobst Group, on Broad Ground Road, in the Lakeside area of Redditch on Thursday, March 3.

The initial alert came through at 11.35am from an automatic fire alarm and was followed by a call from an employee at the factory who reported a fire on the ground floor of the premises.

Two fire appliances from Redditch and two from Bromsgrove attended the fire along with Warwickshire fire appliances from Alcester and Studley. The Command Support Unit from Malvern also attended.

All employees at the factory had been safely evacuated by the time firefighters arrived on scene. In total 10 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using two hose reels and one main jet to bring the fire under control - while other firefighters evacuated two neighbouring premises and secured the area.

Station Commander Dean Baker said: “The rapid deployment and prompt actions of the first crews on scene limited the fire to a small area at the rear of the factory.”

Veronique Mureau, spare parts manager of Bobst Group, Redditch, said: “We are grateful for the excellent response of the fire service which has meant that there are no major problems to the business and we will be able to look after our customers as normal with minimal disruption.”

Firefighters left the scene at 3pm and planned to return later to re-inspect it. There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is accidental.
