ALVECHURCH interpreting and training centre, Sign Solutions, is celebrating after one of its staff sign language interpreters won a national award.
Signature - the charity championing excellence in communication with deaf people - announced the regional winners for its Learner of the Year Award, with junior trainee sign language interpreter, Julia Ward, winning the Midlands region.
The awards are designed to recognise and reward those who have made a significant contribution towards achieving a society in which deaf and deafblind people have full access. Julia, who was up against 19 other shortlisted learners, has worked hard during the last few months and has excelled in both her interpreting and sign language courses.
She said: “I’m thrilled to have won. Completing my BSL qualification represents another step towards my goal of becoming a fully qualified interpreter.
“These awards are so important for promoting the hard work and achievements of all the people who are involved in reducing communication barriers between deaf and hearing people. I can’t wait for the national finals in November.”
To celebrate National Deaf Awareness Week from June 28-July 4, Sign Solutions is offering a range of discounts on deaf awareness and sign language courses.
Delivered at its Alvechurch training centre, Sign Solutions is giving a 10 per cent discount on any course booked during the week as well as special offers on other training programmes.
For further information or to book a course, contact Kim Dobbs, training administrator on 0845 077 0041/42 or visit www.signsolutions.uk.com.
