A REDDITCH woman will be travelling to Sierra Leone to help change the lives of youngsters affected by war.
Valerie Bechaalani, 67, will be making the trip with Mission Direct, an international Christian poverty relief charity, and will be helping to re-build a rehabilitation centre for children and young people.
Valerie, who leaves at the beginning of March, said: “I’m looking forward to going. Sierra Leone has suffered greatly from the civil war - every little helps so I’ll be doing whatever I can.”
As part of the trip Valerie will be taking with her books, children’s clothes, stationery and other basic necessities that are so desperately needed.
She added: “I first went over to Sierra Leone about 45 years ago. I intended to stay there for about a year but I fell in love with it and actually stayed 10 years.
“This time round it will only be for two weeks though. That’s what made me go again, the fact that I could take a short break but still do so much to help those affected by the war.”
