Redditch women get set for Race for Life

REDDITCH women will be doing something amazing by taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2009 and raising money for research to help more people survive cancer.

The event in Redditch takes place on Sunday, July 26, at 11am in Arrow Valley Park.

This year more than 2,400 women will walk, jog or run to complete the 5km course to raise money to help beat cancer. This will make 2009 the biggest Race for Life in Redditch to date.

Laura Kavaney, Redditch Race for Life area event manager, said: “Women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes join in. They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5km course. Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun, but they all share the wonderful spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day."

The event is filling up fast, but Cancer Research UK are on the look out for men and women to volunteer on the day.

Laura said: “I’m so pleased so many Redditch women have answered our invitation to take part, but we’re still in need of extra help on the day.

“There’s a huge variety of important tasks that need to be done, including setting up the course and main event area, marshalling the course; assisting in the information marquee and handing out water, goody bags and medals.

“We can guarantee volunteers a fun, inspiring and rewarding experience. They’ll get a buzz from helping deliver a successful event with like-minded people from across the community. And they’ll also pick up organisational, communication and fundraising skills while enabling the thousands of women taking part to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work.”

This year, Cancer Research UK hopes the 2,400 signed-up Redditch women will hit a fundraising target of £115,000.

Men and women in Redditch are invited to register as a volunteer at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 641 2282.
