ROWNEY Green residents joined their local policing team on Thursday in an initiative to tackle speeding in the village.
The residents are concerned at the speed motorists are passing through their village, particularly at peak times, and so are looking to set up Rowney Green Community Speed Watch to highlight the issue and work with the police and the council to address it.
The pro-laser speed equipment was used by specially trained officers from 8.30am along Rowney Green Lane to monitor the speed of vehicles passing through the village and to assess how many motorists are exceeding the 30 mile an hour limit in place along that stretch of road.
Pc Lucy Thornton, local policing officer for Wythall said: “Speeding in Rowney Green has been raised as a concern at local PACT meetings on numerous occasions and the residents themselves are keen to take action to address it.
“They want to make their village safe for children, dog-walkers and other road users and several residents turned up to support the start of the campaign.
“We hope that the use of the speed monitoring equipment today we will have highlighted the issue, and that motorists passing through the village will curb their speed, especially at busier periods either end of the day.”
She added that residents, the local policing team and the district council will be working together to keep the focus on speeding in Rowney Green and that further speed awareness days are planned throughout July.
