Redditch school wins its grand entrance

ROMAN Way First School has triumphed in a national competition, launched by gate manufacturer Cannock Gates, to bag themselves a state-of-the-art school entrance worth up to £2,000.

The school, on Colts Lane, was selected by Cannock Gates to go head-to-head with 10 other finalist UK schools to win the prize.

Since then, Roman Way has been campaigning hard to secure an incredible 74,014 votes.

Jane Scarborough, headteacher, said: “Over the last month, pupils and teachers at the school have been working extremely hard to encourage people to vote for us. We’ve sent flyers out and put posters up around Redditch and held coffee afternoons for parents to come in and vote. We’ve also had support from schools all over Worcestershire, companies, both local and international, plus West Mercia police.

“Our school motto is ‘only my best will do’ and we encourage our pupils to take pride in their school and each other. The school’s present gates simply do not do it justice. We’re absolutely delighted to have won and we’d like to thank everyone that voted for us. We’re all really excited about working with Cannock Gates to design the perfect entrance.”

Julie Turnbull, Cannock Gates general manager, said: “We’re so pleased Roman Way First School won the prize. As a Midlands-based company ourselves, it’s great to be able to support a school on our patch.

“We offer wrought iron style and wooden gates in more than 750 standard sizes and designs and we also offer a bespoke service, which means Roman Way First School can really have fun choosing the new gate. It will be fitted in the near future and we hope it will welcome many pupils and visitors for years to come.”
