STUDENTS and staff involved in saving a man’s life while on a school trip in Cumbria have received awards for their bravery and the help they gave.
Pupils from Arrow Vale School were doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award in the Lake District last month when they spotted a walking stick and went to investigate.
Their curiosity led them to spot the 70-year-old man who had fallen about 30 feet and was seriously injured.
More than 25 members of the Keswick Mountain Rescue team were called and the man was airlifted by RAF helicopter to Cumberland Infirmary where he was treated for head and spinal injuries.
