Trial broadcast was a success

SILENCE returned to Redditch’s airwaves recently as the 87.7 Kingfisher FM transmitter was powered down after a successful 28-day trial broadcast, bringing the chance of a full-time Redditch station a step closer.

Packed broadcasts included local presenters from 7am to midnight, roadshows and workshops at Redditch Youth House, the town hall and Debenhams and also included a live broadcast helping raise more than £2,000 for the Primrose Hospice and the Redditch mayor’s charities at a grand charity auction evening.

While on the airwaves, Kingfisher FM helped raise awareness of organisations across including the Redditch Blind Association, Support Our Soldiers, the Sainsbury’s shoebox appeal, Batchley Support Group and many more.

The station also welcomed many special guests during its time on air.

Director James Hollamby said: “We are very pleased overall with the broadcast this month.

“It wasn’t always perfect but I think it has drawn a line in the sand showing what can be produced on air locally and has set the standards high for future broadcasts.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part for all their hard work and to all our listeners and supporters who have been phoning, emailing and texting the studio. Your support is always greatly appreciated.”

Kingfisher FM will be back early 2009 with another 28 day trial broadcast and until then will be broadcasting through www. kingfisherfm.co.uk and continuing its work in the community.
