A MOTHER fearing for her two-year-old daughter’s health has lashed out at Redditch Council.

In February Susanne Corbett, who lives with her husband and daughter Megan, told the Advertiser the council was ignoring her pleas for help.

She complained that their council flat in Dolben Lane was damp and mouldy, causing Megan to have chest infections.

Despite numerous calls and visits to the council, she said the flat is still plagued by mould and damp and promises made by the council have amounted to nothing.

Susanne said: “The problem is more than just embarrassing. It’s giving me asthma and my daughter has had impetigo twice.

“I’ve been messed around by the council time and time again and I’m sick of it. When I call them I hear the same thing all the time – no-one is listening.

“After the article went in we did have a few people come round but they either said they couldn’t do anything or that they’d be in touch but never were.”

She added: “The council’s behaviour is absolutely shocking, some of the people I’ve spoken to have been really rude and told me that the damp is my fault.

“The only thing that has happened since February is they said they’d get me a draft excluder and I’ve been waiting six months for that.”

Pam Wilkins, council repairs and maintenance manager, said: “An inspector had been round and identified two problems, namely the need to replace boxing in and around the pipe work in the hall cupboard and to apply mould treatment to the cupboard ceiling.

“Works to replace the boxing was done last week and the mould treatment was done on Monday, October 20.

“Mrs Corbett also asked for draught proofing to be fitted around the front door, which we have agreed to do, and also reported a faulty socket, which has been reported to our electrical contractors.

“We’re not aware of instances of any calls from Mrs Corbett not being responded to by the repairs and maintenance team.”
