CAMPAIGNERS who want to fight the UK’s “out of date” cannabis laws are to hold a mass protest in Redditch to “hit” Home Secretary and town MP Jacqui Smith “where it most hurts”.

The man behind Protest London, known as Pinky, has organised a protest in October from 11am in Market Street, in the town centre.

The planned Redditch protest follows one in London which was held recently when thousands of people gathered in the streets to voice their support for the legalisation of cannabis.

Pinky said: “On September 28, 2008, 80 years has passed since cannabis became illegal to use. It was made illegal because no one knew if cannabis was a harmful drug or not.”

He said since the law was passed, nobody had been able to prove that cannabis caused any harm to users.

Pinky uses the drug for medicinal purposes but is also standing up for those people who use the drug for recreational purposes.

He said: “Cannabis should be controlled, taxed and licensed. The current law is completely out of date.

“The protest in Redditch will take place on Saturday, October 18, from 11am-7pm. Redditch is the home of Jacqui Smith, Home Secretary. We will hit her where it hurts most – home.”

And in a letter to Jacqui Smith – which appears on the Protest London website, he said: “The protest will be large, too large for Redditch to handle. We will close roads with barricades of disabled people in wheelchairs if this is what’s needed for us to get noticed.”

Pinky said he and fellow campaigners had contacted Jacqui Smith but received no response and that Ms Smith had completely ignored advice given to her by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, where most of its members judged that cannabis should remain a Class C drug and not be upgraded.

He added: “The very least we want from this Redditch protest is a meeting with Jacqui Smith. If she fails to grant us one, we will continue being in her face until she agrees.”

Sgt Richard Edwards, of West Mercia Constabulary, said: “We are aware of the planned protest and are liaising with Redditch Council on the suitability of the proposed location.

“We are committed to ensuring that local residents and business can go about their lawful business undisturbed at the same time as recognising the rights of those who seek to carry out legitimate protests.

“We will ensure the demonstration is peaceful and does not cause any inconvenience to members of the public or highway obstruction.”

Jacqui Smith did not wish to comment on the protest.

Of course she won't because every time she comments on cannabis she has to toe the party line. I.e. that it's harmful (because the majority of people think that and therefore vote likewise). Unfortunately the government scientists have told her the opposite. So if she comments she has to lie. (And lies make baby jesus cry)..

also if no one has made contact to you in reddich how do you explain a no comment given by you to this paper! your digging you self in deeper. you knew this protest was coming, all i requested was you to have a meeting with a few selected heads of cannabis orgs. i cant contact you im an inderpendant person not a organisation and i dont live in redditch you keep ignoring organisations too remenber! im an inderpendant so i do get noticed. the letter was sent to the home office, your home office letter as follows

My name is Pinky(Jim) Starr, I’ve just handed a petition to number 10 and the PM. This was hand delivered on the 25th June to state how people of the UK believe people should have the right to use Cannabis to self medicate without the fear of prosecution. I still await Gordon Brown’s personal response. This petition was also signed by MP’s, doctors, rev, and people from different religions and different walks of life.

Please see my pain in this picture, just the journey could of caused me paralysis and has caused me further neurological problems. Only Cannabis kept me going that day. I passed a box of my pain and over 5000 signatures in to number 10 that day.

Why do you ignore us medical users of cannabis and the results of the ACMD meeting. There is no proof that using Cannabis can cause mental illness and it’s proven, only excessive abuse could possibly lead to a speeding up of certain mental illnesses.

Only one possible case by someone who severely abused the drug is not good enough reason to lock medicinal and recreational users up in prison for 5 years, for the same time of someone who has just been convicted of manslaughter.

We all have to go to back street dealers and fund criminal activity. I have had people steel my money many times as I’m unable to run after them. Why do we have to go to back street dealers to get Cannabis? All we are doing is funding the black market for £2000 a year. we could grow our own if were able to by law. I cannot grow myself as I don’t want to be taken away from my children. I’m a family person just like you!

Alcohol is fuelling the knife problems in the UK not Cannabis.

Your law under class c saw my friend locked up for 8 months, Victor Hamilton had Cannabis in his home for personal use. It was proven in court he had full medical backing and he gets 8 months of hell because he cannot use NHS meds due to internal medical problems.

You cannot kill people with Cannabis only cure certain cancers, stops them spreading. Stops breast cancer spreading, shrinks brain tumours and is better than morphine and other opoids for pain. Better than valium for spasticity and muscle spasms… it stops sickness and increases weight gain in people who are undergoing chemotherapy…. Oh did people forget to tell you this?

You didn’t ask the NHS why so many people and specialists write asking for licences to support medicinal Cannabis users who suffer from pain etc which they see in surgery. If you had of contacted the NHS they would of stated that letting people use and grow there own Cannabis would save the NHS billions of pounds in money, due to huge savings on expensive medication we are needing to try and control the problems we suffering legally. There has never in the history books been a Cannabis drug related death. Cannabis is a lot less harmful than alcohol, please note how many deaths there are form alcohol abuse. We only use cannabis not abuse the drug.

Please run the same meeting with the ACMD council regarding alcohol and the see what figures they come back to you with . One in two hundred and fifty people who abuse drink will form psychosis PROVEN.

I have the backing of charities and organisations who are 100% behind me financially support. I am the voice of thousands of people in the UK who are bed ridden who could lead a better way of life if you would have a heart to let them live a better way of life legally.
